What the platform does
- Clinicians assign journaling prompts, structured exercises, and homework to individual clients through the dashboard
- Clients receive assignments in their app and complete them at their own pace
- Clients choose which responses to share before each session, nothing is shared automatically
- Clinicians see shared responses, mood patterns, and check-in data in a caseload dashboard
- Automatic pre-session briefs summarise client activity ahead of each appointment
What it does not do
- The platform does not deliver therapeutic interventions
- The AI component is an instrument only, the clinician retains full accountability for clinical decisions
- The platform is not a crisis service and does not conduct risk assessment
- It is not an EMR, scheduling system, or billing platform
The CAP Use of Technology Guideline (September 2024) requires that registered psychologists retain full clinical accountability when using technology-assisted tools. Betterjournal is designed as an instrument, not a clinician substitute. The clinician reviews, interprets, and acts. The platform organises and presents.
Privacy architecture
All client data is stored on Canadian servers. Each client-clinician pair uses an isolated AES-256 encryption key. If a client revokes consent, their key is rotated and existing data becomes permanently unreadable.
